The lower the micron size you choose, the finer the sediment particles are filtered out of your water. For example, a 5 micron filter catches more than a 25 micron filter. **Q: what is the filtered flow rate of this filter** A: It depends on the cartridge you choose. The flow rate of the housing isn't a big deal, it's the cartridge that does the filtering and different types of cartridges filter faster/slower for bigger/smaller particles. **Q: Can this be mounted horizontally** A: It should be mounted as depicted. It comes with a steel bracket, and needs to be attached to a wall or studs. I attached my bracket to a 4 ft 2x6, which in turn was attached to a stud in the wall behind. It would certainly still function if rotated 90 degrees, but you'd spill out a half gallon of water at each filter change, and any goo would collect on the bottom side of the filter. If needed, add some elbows in your plumbing to mount as shown. **Q: does it have any effect on the pressure** A: I have had the filter for some time, but have never seen any issues with flow (even when filter is ready to be changed).
