Review: A Great Purchase - I've been getting by with the internal speakers from my 5-year-old 55" LG TV, or sometimes using the optical audio output to my $1000 Yamaha stereo amp, but I thought I could do better for my apartment. I selected the Vizio soundbar and subwoofer based on reviews and mostly the price...many other soundbars from Sony, Sonos, Bose and others are north of $500 and I paid just $225 for the well-reviewed Vizio system. I unpacked it, assembled it according to instructions and hooked it up to my TV's HDMI/ARC output...I just turned on the power all around and it automatically configured itself, I didn't have to change a single setting on my TV or the soundbar...it's got a microchip brain that does that on its own. The sound quality is good but not outstanding...though the box and description say that it's Dolby Atmos/Dolby DTS-X you should be aware that it's not actually Dolby Atmos but only a "virtual" Atmos version that supports the Atmos sound codex...for true Atmos you'll require at least seven speakers mounted above, below and to the sides of your TV. If you've been spoiled by true Dolby Atmos you might be disappointed with the Vizio, but then you won't be out an additional $1,500 (minimum) to $3,000 or more (and challenged to position 7-9 speakers). It does the job handling any type of input...With Atmos and DTS-X signals the voices seem to travel across the screen and the bass rumbles, plus it's completely backwards-compatible so it doesn't matter what type of audio you feed it. There are three versions of this soundbar--one for Dolby Digital, one for Dolby Atmos/DTS-X (with subwoofer) and a third for Dolby 5.1 with three speakers in addition to the soundbar. I did thorough homework, went for the soundbar/subwoofer Virtual Atmos version and I'm convinced it's the best solution for me, since neither my TV or separate amp support Dolby 5.1 to 9.2...you require a TV with an E-ARC (enhanced) port to take advantage 0f 5.1. For just over 200 bucks, this puppy is an impressive improvement to my entertainment system. That was the wrong direction for me, and it sounds like for you too with audio lag. The solution for me was to plug my Fire TV stick (used for all viewing including live TV) directly into the sound bar "HDMI In" port instead of a TV port , then connect sound bar to the TV via HDMI-ARC ports. That eliminated the audio lag entirely and I can still control everything with my Fire TV remote alone. Another thing to try is using optical connection from TV to sound bar and set the TV output to PCM, which might help reduce/eliminate lag. Hopefully Vizio comes up with a firmware fix for this or better troubleshooting tips on their support site, otherwise retailers may get a bunch of these back from people without the knowledge or patience to try different things. Absolutely worth the price for performance. My big gripe is that it struggles to work seamlessly with my budget Samsung Crystal UHD 55". The TV will periodically say that the soundbar isn't an eARC device (it is), and the only solution is to turn the soundbar off and on while the TV is turned on. If that was the only issue, I could maybe write it off as a Samsung TV problem. However, I'm also not a fan of the Bluetooth integration on this soundbar.
