There are shimmering highlights in the wood, areas of darker-accentuated grain and other impressive effects to be seen. They almost look polished, the sanding has been done so well. The edges are rounded and beveled and there was no wood dust at all in the package-- so clean!!The edges are not burnt-looking like all the other disks I have purchased in the past few months.Also, these are not plywood, but solid material.Further, none of the edges (or interior) are cracked, split or missing material.It was wood putty to the rescue too often with other vendors.You will NOT need to pick through what you have in order to find the better ones for your project when some disks would be sold, rather than being intended for private use.I needed marker disk plates of different colors for chess instruction, but these are so gorgeous that I don't have the heart to cover up the details with opaque paint. A few coats of clear polyurethane is what these disks deserve.
