Review: Works well - wow! I never expected it to work as well as it does. Turntable to AV system via RCA worked pretty much first time. I had to fiddle with the grounding connection a couple of times but now its stable and grounding works silently. The gronding connector is a knurled thumb Screw type that was really tight but its the only and proper way to use the units ground which def exists! Sounds very good but I'm guessing if may not compare with some bigger, better and more serious pre-amps. I'm happy enough and at this price it's well worth a punt IMO. Mine is powered via a standared uk 3 pin plug
Review: Was expecting mediocre, but this was not the case.. - After reading both the positive and negative reviews for this product, I was a somewhat cautious and proceeded to order with some trepidation. I had looked at much higher end phono pre-amps which all had pros and cons, especially with hum being a massive negative across the board. So I eventually bit the bullet and plumped for the PP400 as the price was low enough for me to swallow in case it didn’t live up to my expectations. As soon as the product arrived I hooked it up to my Technics SL1200MK2 and bridged it to my Denon M38 DAB, ensuring the 1200’s ground wire was connected. Upon connecting any hum immediately disappeared, I even turned the system up to full volume, tapping the plinth of the deck for some feedback or resonance, only to hear nothing! Suffice to say that my initial concerns were uncalled for and the sound quality was amazing. The line conversion is only a couple of decibels quieter than the CD output on my device, which I’m fine with. Bass and treble is extremely adequate and more than competes with both CD and USB sound sources. Some have said that this device lacks certain dynamics when compared to products 3-4 times more expensive, but my ears say that the PP400 sounds just fine! Of course my opinion is subjective, but I’m sure most will find this a perfectly good product. Only the purist audiophiles will find fault with this because they are listening to their hardware and not the music. Over all I am more than pleased with the PP400 and feel no desire to upgrade it to a more expensive pre amp as I know this does the job extremely well.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this preamp work with mm and/or mc turntable cartridge?**
A: This preamp is mainly designed for moving magnet (MM) turntable cartridges.Ben Jessen

**Q: how do i use the ground?**
A: I use one of these Behringer 400s with my Project turntable, which comes with a ground lead to minimise the notorious Project turntable hum. Alone it does not entirely eliminate the hum. My amp doesn't have a ground connector.
However, I then also ran another ground lead from the preamp to a close-by heating radiator bleed valve. This eliminated any trace of hum or interference completely!
So the trick is to ground the PP400 itself AND the turntable. Incidentally, the PP400 is a superb entry-level preamp, very Very small. At the current Prime price it's an absolute steal.

**Q: Is there any way to reduce the amplification? I'm getting terrible distortion from my un-amplified turntable.**
A: There is no way of turning it down, it maybe that your turntable is outputting a line signal which is causing the problem.

**Q: Have a technics 1210 mk2 and JBL 305 active speakers. will this pre amp be enough to get good quality through my speakers?**
A: The simple answer is yes. Your speakers are active type, thus incorporate a power amplfier, & should have phono/line in connector inputs to connect to the pp400, which just boosts the signal from a turntable to a line-in stronger signal.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great value for money but no on/off switch
*by M***K on 5 April 2024*

It does the job nicely enough. It's small so it doesn't clutter the place up, however, you need to keep it accessible as there's no on/off switch meaning you have to pull the power cord out when you're finished with it. Sound quality is great for the money.
