In your case, if you put the mic on the left, you put Channel 1. If you chose to record on 1/2, the DAW thinks you're recording left and right Channel with two mics, for stereo recording. That is why you are hearing left only. You're meant to set on the software the Input(Channel 01) so that you can record Mono sound. Then you'll be able to hear this mono sound on both left right ear. Then you can use the reverb function to make it "stereo" like. As for the dynamic mics, if you leave Phantom Power on, it won't matter for the mic. Long as it is not Ribbon mic. 48V power will render any Ribbon mic useless.
