## Description

Product Description Aperture range from f/3.5 to f/22 Angle of view from 76 Degree to 5 Degree20' Maximum magnification of 0.32x and a minimum focusing distance of 1.6' Lens construction of 16 elements in 12 groups Works on FX-format cameras in DX crop mode. Note: Focal length decreases as the focus distance shortens. Note that the focus distance indicator is intended only as a guide and may not accurately show the distance to the subject and may, due to depth of field or other factors, not show ∞ when the camera is focused on a distant object. Optical Conversion Factor: 1.5x. The world is full of amazing views—some right in front of us, others far in the distance. Capture all of them beautifully with a single lens, the outstanding all-in-one telephoto zoom AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR. Surprisingly compact and lightweight for a 16.7x zoom lens, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR draws great performance from Nikon DX-format D-SLRs and is a highly versatile second lens. Shoot wide-angle scenic landscapes and group photos, portraits with softly blurred backgrounds, super-telephoto close-ups and everything in between—if you can see it, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR can capture it. Optimized for shooting both stills and HD videos, it features specialized Vibration Reduction technology for tack-sharp photos and steady videos, even when your hands are a bit shaky. And since it's a NIKKOR, it features some of the best optics available. Whether you're looking for maximum versatility in a lens or you're just the kind of photographer who finds inspiration all around, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR will help you capture more of life's great views. The AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR can do just about anything—stills, videos, landscapes, interiors, portraits, wildlife...you name it. Its massive zoom range goes from wide-angle (27mm equivalent in 35mm) all the way to super-telephoto (450mm equivalent in 35mm), so you can catch stunning close-ups of concert performers and athletes as easily as wide scenic shots. Its compact, balanced design and Vibration Reduction technology help keep photos sharp and videos steady, and the lens' fast, quiet autofocus system minimizes camera noise during video recording. A little camera shake can ruin an otherwise great photos or video, especially when shooting at super-telephoto distances. To combat camera shake, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR features Nikon's Vibration Reduction technology, which provides 4.0 stops* of blur-free handheld shooting. Capture crisp, clear photos and steady videos even if your hands are a bit unsteady. Additionally, VR is a big advantage in low-light situations—slow down your shutter speed without compromising sharpness. Like all renowned NIKKOR lenses, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR delivers stunning image quality—vibrant color, sharp detail, and minimal distortion. To enhance that superb optical performance and increase its versatility as both a photo and video lens, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR includes Nikon's advanced lens technologies like Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for ultra-fast, near-silent autofocusing, three Aspherical (AS) and Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements for maximum contrast and minimal lens flare and ghosting, a rounded 7-blade diaphragm for beautiful, natural background blur and Internal Focusing (IF) for a more compact, streamlined lens design. Review: The Nikon 2216 AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300 mm is a Beast! - I am a graphic designer and photographer; I am also a Nikon fanboy. I have used Sony and Canon, but always come back to my trusty Nikon D5300. I had an AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105 mm but sadly smashed it while on a night shoot. I was looking for a replacement but couldn't find a new one, and when I did, they were extortionately expensive. I did some research and found this one on desertcart that I could get on 5, 0% interest instalments, which was a no brainer, I really wish desertcart did more items on the 5 easy payment, 0% interest instalments scheme. It is so helpful and is a peace of mind. I have literally, just ordered a 4K monitor that I found on their website too. The lens is a Nikon 2216 AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300 mm. But more importantly it has a metal F-Mount, which is a big deal because I have had my plastic one’s break. So, for me that is a massive bonus! I bought a new 67mm hood for the lens and already had a good quality CIR-PL filter. On Friday, I used the lens for the first time on a night shoot for a client in the middle of nowhere with a crew of 50 people and tower lights and the lens was fantastic, the 18-300 zoom was so helpful as the job site was about 650 metres long. I did the majority of photos handheld I took a few on my tripod, but to be honest it was just easier. The lens is not light along with my camera the whole thing weights about 2.6lbs. I got some lovely bokeh shots and some nice clean close ups of the crews. There is a bit of noise but with lightroom I have setup a batch reduction on the RAW files. I have to say this is an excellent official Nikon lens, and for the money it is expensive, but if you are able to do the 0% interest payments. I would highly recommend.
Review: Great all round lens - I purchased this lens as an all round travel lens to save me having to carry multiple lens or changing lens while out and about. This lens is very compact and is about the same size as the 18-140. The mount is metal and has a rubber ring around it to help prevent dust getting into the camera but note the lens is not sealed. When you zoom the lens barrel extends outwards but focusing is internal which is great if you want to use any filters as the front does not rotate when focusing. The zoom ring has a ribbed rubber grip and has a nice smooth movement. There is a locking switch to lock the zoom at 18mm when walking about to prevent zoom creep but I so far have not had any issues with this and not used the lock. The focus ring maybe is a little small but does work well. It does have focus override so you can manually adjust the focus even if you are in auto mode. The lens also has Vibration Reduction which can be turned on or off by a little switch on the side. I find this to be quite effective. Picture quality from this lens is quite impressive considering the zoom range on the lens and I find you can still get sharp images even if fully zoomed at the full 300mm. As expected with a lens of this range it does have some barrel distortion at both ends of the zoom but this is easily fixed in post processing. If you want to use filters this lens has a 67mm thread.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Hi, anyone used this successfully on a D80 or D90 ?**
A: Yes and it works wonderfully well on my D90 and also my D7100

**Q: Hi Is this lens sharper then a 35mm F/1.8g?**
A: As it happens I own both this and the 35mm 1.8. In terms of sharpness there is no comparison whatsoever - the 35mm is much sharper by far. Having said that if you're prepared to sharpen your photos in post processing you should get a more than acceptable image quality. Where this lens comes into it's own is the amazing range from wide angle to 300mm telephoto. By their very design a zoom lens can never be as sharp as a prime lens the greater the zoom range the bigger drop in sharpness. What it really boils down to is if it's sharp enough for you to find acceptable.

**Q: what is the best uv filter for this lens**
A: Not the answer you wanted but most experts are dead set against uv filters. They were great for film which was degraded by light, but they just cut precious light getting to the digital camera sensor - this lens is really high on the f numbers anyway relative to a 50mm prime lens. . A plastic hood in strong light protects the lens, and a neutral density set of filters (square one that fixes on the front) or a circular polarising filter work much better to control sunlight.

**Q: Would this lens give you good quality flexibility to do portraight shots in the studio close up and ful body sharp photos?**
A: In response to your query. If you are looking to do majority of your portrait work in studio, then a prime lens is preferred over a zoom. A typical focal length being 70-135mm on a full frame. Portrait work for most part requires a shallow depth of field, so a 1.8-2.8 f, good in low light, being preferred by portrait photographers. A prime lens should allow for better quality over a zoom (fewer elements) so sharper image, more control, less flare.Having said all of the above, the Nikon 18-300 is an excellent lens, and as for portrait work (unlike architectural) one does not use 'edge to edge' so no reason why images should not be sharp. Also remember that for portrait work, particularly on women, one looks for a 'softer' image, as more flattering. Most quality cameras have a portraiture feature built into the software as part of the menu programme. Rgds.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great lens
*by M***K on 14 August 2014*

If your after a good all round walkabout lens for Nikon then this is it ' i took this lens & my D7100 out yesterday for a test and was very pleased with the results. My two main lenses are the 105 vr and 300f4 for wildlife so this lens was up against some quality Nikon glass and it held its own. I only manage an hour of testing before the heavens opened ' but i manage three good shots of a buzzard (considering the light)then a good shot of a bee on a flower' if you go to Flickr and check out happy snappy you will see the four pics i have mentioned.Other points ' focus speed = faster than 55-300 slower than 70-300 but very accurate ' VR = the best i have used. This lens is also very light weight at 550g and is a true replacement for a 18-55 +55-300 combo imho. To sum up this lens ' if i was going out knowing i was shooting birds from a distance the 300f4 + tc gets the nod ' if i was going out knowing i was mainly doing macro the 105 vr gets the nod ' if i was going out doing both i would take the 18-300 'its lite weight 'covers a lot of focal range' no lens swapping' and the chance of a landscape shot should it arise.
