I hooked it to the car power and ignition wire as instructions show. Gives continuous readings. It also has a built in battery that keeps it alive if someone tries to disconnect power or cuts wires. It stays on for many days on less than 3 to 1 volts. Car voltage is 14 when driving and 13 when just shut off. 12 when sitting for an hour or for days. Gps map is fantastic! Gives you instantaneous pinpoint location on a google map and information. You can select history and see the route for any time period displayed as lines and arrows on the map with info dots displayed at set time intervals. And there is so much more. Downloads. Spreadsheets. Reports. Fleet options.
