All in all very happy, a simple and effective way to top up a pond, the same would be true of an aquarium. This is a much cheaper option than putting a permanent filter in place. The only downside, is the box says it will treat up to 150,000 litres, however without a water meter, it's impossible to tell how much you have run through it, Given this is the purpose of the device and reasonably high price, a cheap meter thrown in would be nice as you really have no idea how much of that 150K is used or when the unit will be exhausted, my pond is only about 5,000 litres so should last me a long time, however test strips are my only way to asses at this time. At work I use it for all 50 large fish tanks both marine, tropical and cold water as well as amphibians and water based reptiles with no problems **Q: does this filter also remove nitrates and phosphates?** A: The purpose of this device is to remove chlorine from the tap water filling the pond. It won't remove toxins in the water such as ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, you'll need a mechanical/biological filter system to do this. **Q: How is this compared to a 3 stage dechlorinator?** A: Expensive very fragile. Not good outdoors if frost expected. To be frank I have now purchased a large single stage filter for topping up pond. It’s convenient if you just want to connect to a hose and store afterwards.
