I've heard you still need some form of thinner other than water?** A: As the name implies the paints can be thinned with water. You will need to experiment with different degrees of water in the mix as the water does start to thin down the amount of pigment in the paint. When I use water I do so very sparingly. By preference I tend to use purified linseed oil for thinning but again I use it sparingly - I have a small pool of oil on my pallet and occasionally dip the tip of my brush in it. Thinning is only really necessary for fine detail work and the basic oil paint is usually OK for general work. This is something you must resolve for yourself by experimenting with paint mixes and for an exercise you could start to make up a sample colour mix board marked with clear record of the colour proportions and water/paint mix proportions to use for future reference or consider finding a class for instruction. The water is a simpler method for cleaning your brushes but I would recommend a good quality brush soap for use when cleaning. A good one may seem expensive but it does last and can be used for cleaning all mediums and helps to keep your brushes in good order - I have been using mine for about 8 years now and it is still going strong. **Q: What colours are included ?** A: The following is copied from the Ken Bromley catalogue item for this product. Too much water and the paint becomes similar to a water colour paint. I usually work wet in wet with neat paint and find this works well and they only intermix when I deliberately blend the edges. Experience and practice will resolve your starting problems. Just to note - if you want to practice lightning sketching with oil paints use mounting card as your canvas - the card absorbs the oils in the paint and they dry within a minute or so.
