The taste and texture is both a little dry and soft. That is my experience of chestnuts as they should be. They are good in salads or to snack on. I also purée them with chickpeas to make chestnut soup. **Q: How many chestnuts are in one 3.5 ounce pack/pouch? Thank you** A: I didn't actually count them, but I would say probably between 25 to 30ish. **Q: Do you take food stamps?** A: I don't know but I see more and more items taking EBT... isn't that form of food stamp?!? **Q: Do these need to be refrigerated after opening?** A: I never do, normally they don't last that long once I open a pouch, meaning that we eat them fast. You can though, it won't hurt. But to answer your question I don't think that you have to, but now, if you know that you're going to let them seat around for a couple of days you probably should, as everything else.
