It's possible in taller glass, but harder. Also, they may not fit under the portafilter, so you end up making the espresso in one glass, pre-warming another cup, and transferring. Surprisingly, there are few generally accepted rules in this, and even "espresso" isn't universally defined. "Italian espresso" is, and there's a list of specificaitons for that, but it's not what is commonly served outside of Italy. Which is a shame, the original espresso method being an Italian development in the first place.
