It has a small handle that screws securely into place when needed. There are times I shoot without handles...so it's always nice to have the option of removing it as opposed to tucking it down.I really like this PT head, but realize it's not very large. I will be using this on my travel tripod. I have already replaced my travel ball head with this Sunwayfoto. I would not put it on my larger tripod however. No slight on this head, but I have some heavy gear, and this is not made for that...but it certainly could be anyone's primary head for lighter equipment.
