The Gaggia Panerello creates macrofoam by combining air with the steam by way of an air intake / slot in the black plastic part of the Panerello. This Rancilio steam wand does not have this feature therefore the way you use it to create microfoam needs to be different. If all you do is immerse this wand in your milk like you do with your original Panerello then all you will get is warm milk. Tips for use: Using fully skimmed milk is easier to start with until you perfect your technique. The tip of the steam wand needs to be just below the surface of the milk if not a little bit above it. I would say I'm fairly expert at using it but I've always used the supplied steam wand which is pretty fool proof, but as other have said produces large bubbles of aireated milk. Time for an upgrade & after reading all the rave reviews I thought this is the one for me. Once you've found your spanner the change over takes about 1 minute, & as others have suggested I left the original seal in place and it's sealed perfectly. From the word Go i was disappointed.... Loud screeching from the steaming & the milk was, well milk with a tiny bit off foam on top that soon vanished when supping my cappuccino. I thought 'no leave the spanner alone' this is where YouTube can save me. A quick search & with a few tips I was producing perfect steamed creamy milk. 1. Fill milk to your usual level & use a thermometer if possible. 2. Once your coffee has brewed & your boiler is up to steam temperature, you must purge the wand with a few short bursts to clear any water. Place the tip of the wand about 1cm into the milk & the open the steam knob fully. 3. As you steam allow to tip to almost break the surface but not quite, if you're blowing large bubbles your wand is too high, do that for around 30 to 40 seconds, then lower the wand slowly into the milk remember to tilt your jug at an angle whilst doing this. If you can hear that high pitched screach you're too low too soon. Remember your milk should be around 70 deg when ready. Give it a little swirl in the jug once it's done & when you pour it will be of a creamy rather than milky consistently, & if you pour slowly enough your latte or cappichino will have a golden brown muffin top. P.s I noticed that one reviewer gave it a thumbs down & refitted his original wand but I think he made the same mistakes as I did. Review: Very good and cheap modification that improves the milk steaming of the Gaggia - This was really easy to fit - just unscrew the nut holding the Gaggia steamwand and replace with this. The supplied washer was redundant - you won't need it in the Gaggia. The steam that you get with this Rancilio steamwand is way better than the Gaggia steamwand and you steam milk as you would with the commercial espresso machines. Control over milk stretching is a lot better, unlike the Gaggia steamwand that yielded way too much froth and foam. There is not much one can say about the product; it's well manufactured, fits the desired product and works very well one you get the hang of it. The rubber sleeve it a handy attachment when handling the hot wand and I like the simple, no frills design. For those used to the stock Gaggia Classic steam wand with the foaming attachment, this will feel strange for the first few uses. On touching liquid it emits a high-pitched shriek, banshee-like, which will send any cats in the household running for cover. Don't be alarmed! The secret is to place the tip of the wand j-u-s-t below the surface so that the shriek dampens whilst the milk gently rolls. You will need to practice but after a few attempts I had mastered it. The result are finer mircobbubles than one could get out of the old steam wand, with more control and precision. A word on installing; this is relatively simple but if unsure consult youtube. One negative is the fact that like others, the wand now drips water when turned to 'close' which it didn't before. I can only assume this is related to the fact that the part is not custom-built for the Gaggia Classic, and is solved by placing a small container under the tip.
