The pocket clip functions well, and keeps the pen wherever you've clipped it. This particular pen replaces the Zebra F701 model, which has been a long-time favourite by "every day carry" aficionados, as such pens could, if it came to the crunch, also be used as a self defence tool. - They are certainly constructed well enough!!! The Fisher PR 4 refill from my very old bullet Space Pen went straight into my F-xMD and worked perfectly without any modifications. I also tried some Parker G2 style refills. Genuine Parker refills have a nib tip that is *fractionally* too big. They fit through the pen's hole, but jam. My third party G2 refills do have a small enough nib. Any G2 refill will need the plastic insert at the 'clicker' end to be removed. Some will then work. Some will require a bung or cap to go in place of the insert, or the clicker mechanism will have no effect. I have only one G2 insert that worked in the F-xMD with ease, it's a white plastic one (with the insert removed.) I've also heard that there's a Mitsubishi/Uniball Power Tank refill that works with the F-xMD, which works in a similar way to a Space Pen refill, but they are hard to find. **Q: Where and how does the biro split to enable refill replacement? Great biro by the way.** A: The front section at the nib end splits. Hold the barrel of the pen and turn the front section which you hold with your fingertips when writing anti clockwise and it will separate allowing you access to the ink refill. **Q: Will this pen work if used to write horizontally regularly?** A: This pen contains standard ballpoint ink refill and like all ballpoint ink, they will write horizontally at first and then might stop. If you need pen to write horizontally or other possition, look for pens with pressurized inks like Zebra X-701 or Fisher Space bullet pen **Q: Are there any coloured refills for this pen?** A: Not that I've seen, mine came with black ink and the refill which I purchased from " I love pens " seller on amazon were also black.
