Rubber cement holds these well while nailing, and isn't hard to peel them off when you need to. After trying these on my hubby's new boots with just the nails that came with them, we was disappointed as they didn't stay on, came off half way through dog walk, so glued them and nailed them but did not stay on for long either only a few walks so got strongest glue I could get and nailed them and they stayed on for nearly 3 weeks but not sure if this is good or not for two walks a day with the dog.
