The purpose is to clean the element which is in contact with the water when you fill it to use, as the instructions say, place the normal cycle quantity of water in the unit and add a sachet of descaler and switch on, once completed run another cycle (just fresh water) this will flush the appliance and you are ready to use it as normal once again. **Q: How long does this product last?** A: Not long mine are in the bin!
