On dark hair (as expected), if you do not layer it on heavily the color comes out as a very dark teal. Afterwards, touching the dried hair can cause flakes to fall but I found that they didn't stain any of my clothing, bedspread, head coverings/bonnets or even the counters of my bathroom sink. I won't use it for consistent color, but for the outings that it would fit best.
