Great insight in to the man. Well worth watching.

Superb

As my childhood idol this was always going to be somewhat stacked in favour of a positive review, but what actually merits the five stars is authentic family footage and seeing Kenny Dalglish as the person he really is.For many non Liverpool fans he might have seemed to be a miserable dour Scot, but to his teammates, players and anyone who's met him, he's a funny, jokey and warm man. His handling of the press was never his strongest suit, even during his second term as manager, and certainly influenced many people's opinion of him, which is a shame.The impact of Hillsborough was profound on him personally having attended many of the funerals, and having his doors open to support the bereaved. It all took its toll, meaning he felt the need to "retire" in 1990 at just 39 years old, having already established himself as a forward-thinking bright, successful manager.I remember at the time wondering why the Liverpool board didn't just put Ronnie Moran in charge for the rest of the season on the private understanding that they would quietly monitor Kenny's health and see how the land lay during the off season.Unfortunately for us Liverpool fans, without John Smith at the helm the Liverpool board at the time weren't that intuitive, and so the club lost its mystique almost overnight.Had Dalglish returned to Liverpool instead of Blackburn, I am sure the course of Premier League history would have been quite different.Anyway, back to the film ... It's a must for all fans, not just Liverpool or Kenny devotees.Quite how this man has not been knighted, when he has completely transcended the sport, I really do not know.

How do you replace Kevin Keegan? Arguably one of the best players every to pull on a red shirt. One of the best players in the world at the time.You go one better, that's what you do. When Kenny signed for Liverpool in the summer of 1977 not many Liverpool fans knew much about him. They might have seen the odd game for Scotland and Celtic but that was about it. By the end of the 77/78 season a King was born! King Kenny had twisted and turned his way in to Liverpool fans hearts. The delightful little chip to win Liverpool's second European Cup in May 1978 was the coronation of a King and also a love affair that has lasted five decades and counting. A very private man who picks his friends carefully and gives very little away. This film gives the viewer an insight in to the man,father,husband,player,manager and legend like never before. Great success's on the field in a career laden with so many triumphs are also interwoven with the grief and heartbreak of the Ibrox, Heysel and Hillsborough disasters that Kenny was present at. Any football fan would enjoy this film but Liverpool fans will love it. Long live the King!

This is a good film about a fascinating, driven and very talented man and he is Scottish. It focuses a lot on the very sad Hillsborough disaster and unfortunately he had to witness others, poor man.I would have really liked to see more of his football playing than we were given,as he was brilliant.Though Scottish through and through a big part of his heart is in Liverpool and with that team and that really comes across.He’s always struck me as a decent, very private man so this is a nice tribute and one he deserves. Did I mention he was Scottish? 😍

The film charts Kenny Dalglish's rise and rise as both a player and a manager, mostly at Liverpool. There are loads of clips of his marvellous goals and deft, defence-turning footwork. A modest, taciturn man, his family and friends have to do much of the speaking for him. They tell of his quiet resoluteness but enormous strength. When players like Graeham Souness and Allan Hansen talk about his "very very strong character" is reverent awe, you know he must have been something to behold n the dressing room.That same strength of characters helped pulled himself, the fans, the club and the whole city of Liverpool - no exaggeration, watch the film - through the devastating tragedies of Heysell and Hillsborough stadiums.

This a beautifully made film about an extraordinary man. Not just a magical footballer, but a truly decent man who took it upon himself to support , in any way he could, the families of the Hillsborough bereaved. This film explores both of these sides of Kenny, with the footballing side slightly sidelined in favour of the man behind the footballer. We see charming clips of Kenny with his family, but also shots of a haunted, gaunt Kenny in the aftermath of the Heysel and Hillsborough tragedies. As manager and star player of the team, the pressure on him is palpable - the scenes of Hillsborough, particularly, are harrowing and very moving. 18 Months of inner turmoil later Kenny resigned and that's where this film begins and ends.This is a must-see for any Liverpool fan, but it's also compelling viewing for anyone interested in football, especially from the pre-Premier League era. It's a fitting portrait of one of the greatest players of the modern era, and arguably, an even greater man. How he has not yet been Knighted is beyond me.

Superb. a documentary fit for a king. A deeply emotional account of the off the field heroism that even outshone his on field displays. To put it mildly this man may be from Glasgow but does more to epitomise the spirit of Liverpool than any Scouser I have met. The emotional turmoil this man and his equally heroic Wife Marina put themselves through after the Hillsborough disaster can never be understated. To those football fans who are hoping to see Kenny in his pomp as a player, this is not about his footballing prowess, this is about the love and undying devotion to his adopted city the fans and the families of the 96. The fact that he hasn't received a knighthood is a national disgrace, but it does not surprise me in the least. I also doubt he would accept it. This is a man who does not seek adulation or the limelight, this is a man who simply wanted to do right by his people. He is the king.

Kenny Dalglish is the legend. This is a high quality, demanding film about it.

No more than was expecting quality from start to finish, once had the chance go meet him , and I got star stuck.was the DVD will have to do 😉
