Meanwhile shadowy, secret government agencies seek to track these aliens down. It really shouldn't work, but weirdly it does! This success stems, largely, from the author's brilliantly engaging comic writing style which really did have me inwardly chuckling throughout, even though there were some dark moments in the book as well. The portrayal of the antics of the house-sharing lads Macko, Gerry, and Chubb is just hilarious.There were just two things which, for me, took the edge off an otherwise brilliant book were. Firstly, the author frequently and freely mixes 'points of view' of various characters within a single scene. It's perhaps a technical point, and many readers may not even notice it, but as an author myself, I was constantly aware of it, and it grated a little. Secondly there were quite a number of typos - by no means as many as in some books I've read but enough to detract slightly from the flow of the book.Overall, though, a brilliantly funny and very original book. The narrative is written in a slightly conversational style, making the quips and observations of the author fit well in the story.The story itself does its level best to blend the worlds of Torchwood, football and lads mags together with humour, and does it in such a way that it's worth reading. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Unusual, intriguing, surprising, surreal! *by V***B on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 December 2012* I had reservations with the opening chapter, but as the book progresses I found myself drawn in and getting increasingly involved with the characters who mature with the story. It's an unusual take on science-fiction, romance, intrigue and football (something for everyone!)that somehow weaves together to create a gripping read. The characters are varied and well-drawn; from the crass and crude Macko, to the sensitive and soulful Ellis. The plot twists and turns, keeping the reader guessing and curious to find out more.
