The satin finish is excellent. Hard wearing. I use it on oak worktops and also wooden shower room floor as it is waterproof. I reapply every year. Expensive, but worth it. You can us this on Ash but like any finish you apply is will change the colour of the wood. To get an idea of the colour change you need to put a few drops of water on the wood and when it soaks in this will give you an idea of the colour change. Osmo do supply a product 3044 raw which is the same product with white pigments this reduces the colour change making it appear more like the original wood colour. If you use this product only apply very thin coats and wipe back tbefore drying to avoid leaving a chalky finish. **Q: Can this be used over a painted table top?** A: I’m thinking probably not .. It’s an oil that soaks into the wood and therefore I wonder if the painted finish would act as a barrier to prevent this happening. Maybe a wax would be better than an oil .. don’t know for definite.. just a feeling **Q: Would this seal over writing that has been done in sharpie without blurring the sharpie?** A: Yes it would **Q: Would this Suitable to seal a Ercol table after restoring it ?** A: This will be fine as long at you've sanded back to bare wood. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect varnish *by M***N on 23 February 2026* Very easy to apply.
