A: No ties come with this product. You can use a variety of clips to fasten

**Q: Can this material be cut into smaller peices where it won't come apart?**
A: Yes can be cut without it coming apart

**Q: can it be placed right on the plants or tree for protection**
A: Yes it can. I attached twine around the "hem" of the shade screen in a light knot, three pieces of twine on each side and the other end of the twine loosley around the stems of my Pigmy Palm Tree so that the shade screen can blow around in the wind without tearing. It's worked perfectly.

**Q: Could I use this as a cover on my balcony rail to protect container plants?**
A: Yes, but you may want one with grommets if are looking to suspend it above. This product does not have those. It works great with my application. 
 I fasten mine over the raised beds using hoops I have. Then I apply fasteners I have and use a few bricks here and there.  It is amazing how cool my plants feel when I place them under this protection.

I live in Texas, and I have 5 raised bed in my yard. 2 of them have some shade during the day, and they don't dry out as quickly and generally have no problems with sun scald. The other 3 beds are full sun, and I've had to water them twice a day and end up with tomatoes and peppers with sunscald. Also, generally the plants don't grow as well. Last year I tried a different kind of cover, and it helped with some of the issues but was difficult to attach and tore easily. This kind is nice because I could order a size that would fit the beds without cutting. I attached it to poles with zip ties. Rain and wind can pass through pretty easily, so it does blow around or sag. I used 4 poles on the corners of the bed and 2 on the long sides to keep it still and high enough above the plants. My plants are doing amazing. No burning, and the soil retains moisture better. I think I am going to cover at least 1 more bed next year (the 3rd full sun one doesn't have anything in it at the moment).
