Whatever happened to Claire Marrable? *by S***9 on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 June 2010* Though you would be forgiven for thinking that Whatever Happened to Aunt Alice? is the undiscovered sequel to the better known (and very brilliant) Bette Davis film, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, the two films are unrelated (though they share the same producer) and very different in terms of plot, style and tone. Saying that, if I were a housekeeper I'd be feeling equally nervous working for either of the two film's leading ladies! From the moment that I sat down to watch Whatever Happened to Aunt Alice?, I was captivated by Geraldine Page's calculating and savage portrayal of Claire Marrable - an isolated widow with more than just her husband's death on her mind. I'm not going to tell you what happened to Aunt Alice...mainly because I'm more interested to know what happened to Claire Marrable (you'll know what I'm talking about when you've watched the movie). All I will say is that if you're in the mood for a camp horror flick/black comedy, or just curious to know what actually happened to Aunt Alice (and no, she didn't become a politican), then this is the film for you. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars A delight, a gem, a classic treat. *by M***Y on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 October 2003* Always an avid movie lover, I have this little "collection" in my head and heart that I so vividly remember as movies that enthrawled and delighted me so many years ago."Whatever Happened To Aunt Alice?" sits right up there at the top and I adore this movie each and every time I see it - as much as on my very first viewing.The absolutely wonderful Ruth Gordon makes any movie a winner for me, and she is a real treat to watch here. She dons yet again her hat of "elderly sleuth", as she goes "undercover" as a cleaner/help to Geraldine Page's reclusive and eccentric character - whose succession of helpers has mysteriously disappeared.The two women play so well off of one another and the atmosphere is dark and claustrophobic and yet endearing and comical. Very few other people make an appearance in this movie which focuses mainly on Page and Gordon. But then, with two such acting-greats, what more do you need?If you like this, try "Sleuth" with Michael Caine and Laurence Olivier.
