Oddly, the Elite Cat6 Stranded 28AWG (cm Rated, 1000ft, UTP, Orange) is the first time I've bought a reel (I usually just buy 1000ft pull boxes). I got a kickstand for the reel, and thought I'd set it up to pull with a few boxes, as I had a lot of IP cameras to put into a retail space. Well... it's great. Aside from the better pulling characteristics of a roll rotating on an axle, the wire itself is very thin. I haven't had any kinking issues, any problems punching it down, or even with putting ends on. And it's not CCA. It's not cheap, but all-copper CAT6 cable never really is. There is no magic here and in order to make it thinner, the wire is 28AWG rather then 23AWG (or sometimes 24AWG) on the regular Cat6 cable which makes the regular cable much thicker and stiffer. This cable is designed to provide similar performance over shorter distances - thus the main use is for patch cables or shorter runs (not within walls). You should also not use this cable for any devices that use PoE (power over ethernet) since it is not rated for this due to lower wire gauge. Because these are thinner, they provide much easier handling (more flexible) and more ventilation room in the components racks.Now, could you use these for longer runs? Absolutely, depending on where and for what purpose. If you are building a datacenter or wiring a business - no, please use appropriate Cat6 cables designed for this purpose without cutting corners. However, if you are a homeowner wiring your house, this cable should be just fine, as long as you don't run it through spaces where air circulates (like air ducts, then you need CMP rated cable). Running through the walls where air does not circulate should be ok and allowed. Disclaimer: I am not an electrician and codes may vary, so please do your own research!!! Never saw anything like that. I have quite a few reels of telecomm and electrical cables in my basement, including a few of cat6, so this is great to have around for custom length patch cables. I mean, a lot of enterprise jobs will use only new factory cables as a matter or course, but I'm running out in my new house, and with the price of things these days, I've taken to making my own once again. And really, in a relatively small installation, it's easy enough to troubleshoot if need be.I guess the catch here is that I'm much more likely to need slim cable in the limited pathways from my basement to attic rather than inter- or intra-rack. So being slim doesn't actually do a lot of good for me personally for CM cable, but......it is what it is, and it's quality cable. I wouldn't dirty my home installation with anything not UL listed or anything rated below what it needs to be. Nor do I want any CCA or copper coated steel.
