This was the last item I needed in order to fill out my Klipsch home theater. I have this paired with a 5.1 set of bookshelf reference speakers and it was the cherry on top. Initial setup sounded pretty terrible due to the settings I was utilizing for the previous underpowered 8" sub I was using, a Polk Audio. It was gifted to me so...To the point, I had to spend about three hours recalling, looking up manuals and frequency charts going through various settings on the Denon receiver in order to produce the correct sound. The first setup on prior settings was super muddy and overpowering. I took the time to adjust the crossover settings and gain level and was able to get the new sub performing as was expected. It is very powerful and very heavy on presence. It sounds good throughout it's power and volume range and matches well to the reference speakers I already had completed. Highly recommended if you want very punchy, very powerful bass. It sounds really good both with media content as well as various forms of music. I would say the only down side to the speaker is it's tendency to be muddy/strong. The price this was on sale for and it's pairing with the other components on hand is solid. As a side note, and not a reflection on Woot (the seller) but as a note of warning and caution for desertcart specifically in regard to their delivery drivers. I was out of town on the projected delivery date. It was unavoidable due to scheduling and at the price was afraid it would be gone when I got back. I got a notification that it was "delivered and handed directly to a resident". I called my son who was home and asked him about it and he said it was not here. The driver did NOT take a picture of the item like they commonly do. This aspect was quite worrisome considering the cost of the item. Right about the time as I was about to contact desertcart about the issue the item turned up on the middle of my driveway at 8:45 PM. It was only packed in it's retail box, no covering, plainly obvious as to what it was. I am super glad that I live in an area that is both low in crime and a dead end neighborhood. This could EASILY have walked off. It would be worthwhile for desertcart to discuss with their drivers appropriate CYA in regard to items like this. Dropping off some $5 item "wherever" is one this....this, well... In spite of that SNAFU if the speaker is available for that sub dual bill sale price it's more than a steal of a deal. I read ther manual, but it didn't explain it in a manner I could understand.** A: Hi Mike, I saw your question and wanted to give you the correct answer. The phase switch determines the way the subwoofer cone ( speaker ) reacts. When set to "0" the speaker cone will move in the outward direction at the same time ( phase ) of your main ( left & Right ) speakers. When it is set to "180" the speaker cone of the sub will move inward when your main speakers' cones are moving outward. What this does is cancel out any overlapping frequencies between your main speakers and your subwoofer. When you have overlapping frequencies between your sub and main speakers you will get too much or "bloated" mid bass. Some people prefer "180" because they feel the cancelled out frequencies produces "tighter" and more accurate bass. Other people like more mid bass, so you need to listen to it both ways to find which you prefer. The same thing will happen if you hook up speakers with the speaker wires hooked up with positive & negative swapped ( positive speaker wire in the negative speaker terminal and negative speaker wire in the positive speaker terminal ). Just as an added note, the "Low Pass" filter knob will determine what lower frequencies pass through from your receiver to your subwoofer. The higher the frequency (Hz) the more mid bass the sub outputs and the lower the frequency (Hz) the less mid bass that the subwoofer outputs. You want the subwoofer to optimally blend with your main speakers and that is what the "low pass" filter knob allows you to do. If you are using a surround sound receiver and it is set for Dolby Digital or DTS surround modes receivers will normally automatically crossover the sub output at 80 Hz, so moving the Low pass knob on the sub beyond 80 Hz will have no effect. Now, if you have a surround receiver that utilizes the Audyssey Microphone system to adjust the surround parameters you will want to set the subwoofers low pass knob all the way to the highest frequency. The Adyssey system will determine what frequency blends best with your main speakers. Hope this is helpful. **Q: how many RCA cables to receiver?** A: It has two RCA jacks, but if you have only one sub out one cable is fine - plug it into the left channel for mono. **Q: The subwoofer does a cut off for 2 seconds when I turn the volumen up about 50%, anybody knows why?** A: Are you hooked up via wireless? Or wired? I know when you turn on your receiver or amp, since I have my sub on auto, it has to receive the signal from the receiver that there are low frequencies before it kicks on. So there is a delay. Once it has a signal of low frequency, it's on. But after I'm cranking music through the sub, I am able to blast more power, volume and it has no delay. It could be the music you're playing doesn't have low enough frequencies. Adjust your receiver or amp to pass all low frequency through to your sub.
