It never seemed coarse enough plus it always rusts out. This product works great! It is very coarse and made of stainless steel. The package comes with safety gloves, which you will need to protect your hands from the sharp strands and scissors which are needed to cut the product. Where outside critters were just scratching through ordinary steel wool, they DO NOT get through this stuff. I pack it in the opening and then finish off sealing it with Great Stuff expandable foam. Be sure to get it sprayed into the nooks and crannies of this stainless steel wool. TIP: clean the Great Stuff tube with some acetone so you can reuse it without any problems. THIS IS THE PRODUCT THE PROFESSIONALS USE. I had a hard time finding an opening where such vermin could enter my house, but finally found an opening through the foundation where a vent for a gas water heater came through. The boot around the vent had moved away from the exterior wall, leaving a nice little mouse/snake sized gap between the vent pipe and the concrete. I used the Pestplug to fill the gap and reseated/sealed the boot and have had no problems since.
