## Description

Product Description Paul Verhoeven directs this classic sci-fi action feature starring Peter Weller. Set in the near future, Detroit's soaring crime rate is unsuccessfully policed by a corporation which plans to build a new city. When the new 'enforcement droid' proves unworkable, a murdered cop (Weller) is wired into a computer-controlled titanium body and set to the task at hand. Unimpressed, 'Robocop' seeks vengeance on all sides in this violent but often funny tale. desertcart.co.uk Review When it arrived on the big screen in 1987, Paul Verhoeven's RoboCop was like a high-voltage jolt of electricity, blending satire, thrills, and abundant violence with such energized gusto that audiences couldn't help feeling stunned and amazed. The movie was a huge hit, and has since earned enduring cult status as one of the seminal science fiction films of the 1980s. Followed by two sequels, a TV series, and countless novels and comic books, this original RoboCop is still the best by far, largely due to the audacity and unbridled bloodlust of director Verhoeven. However, the reasons many enjoyed the film are also the reasons some will surely wish to avoid it. Critic Pauline Kael called the movie a dubious example of "gallows pulp," and there's no denying that its view of mankind is bleak, depraved, and graphically violent. In the Detroit of the near future, a policeman (Peter Weller) is brutally gunned down by drug-dealing thugs and left for dead, but he survives (half of him, at least) and is integrated with state-of-the-art technology to become a half-robotic cop of the future, designed to revolutionize law enforcement. As RoboCop holds tight to his last remaining shred of humanity, he relentlessly pursues the criminals who "killed" him. All the while, Verhoeven (from a script by Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner) injects this high-intensity tale with wickedly pointed humour and satire aimed at the men and media who cover a city out of control. --Jeff Shannon, desertcart.com

Review: Criminally overlooked - Just pre ordered this on Steelbook, partly due to a sickness that I have for collecting Steelbooks but mostly because this is one of the greatest films ever made. A lot of stuck up film snobs might sneer at that last comment as they will try to lump Robocop in with all the other over the top action films of the 80's, but I am here to tell them that if they feel like that they are missing the point of the film. Yes this film has a lot of action, very violent action at that, but it is as much a comment on the degradation of society as it is for cinematic spectacle. The visuals in this film are stunning and save for a bit of dodgy blue screen every now and again the special effects still stand up today. And yes, I said blue screen. That is what us old timers used before green screen. The satirical nature of this film is ever present, from the aforementioned violence to the news reports and the apocalyptic family board game. This film takes swipes at modern society from all angles and over 25 years later those themes are still relevant. I would recommend this film to anyone really as there are so many different ways to approach it that I feel most people could take something from it. I first saw this film when I was ten years old and can remember seeing it for the first time, but still now with every watch it remains fresh. If you haven't seen it before, see it. If you have seen it before, just watch it again as you know you are going to love it.
Review: Fantastic edition for fans and collectors - This is a really neat collectors package for Robocop fans. Comes with both the theatrical and directors cut (the latter having scenes extended, noticeably in two of the movies more graphic shootings). The 4K master is done really well in my opinion, it retains a respectful amount of the original film grain, whilst adding the level of detail you would expect from an UHD upgrade. The use of a wide colour gamut and Dolby Vision is welcome adding extra vibrancy and depth to certain highlights and settings. Sure, there are occasional shots in scenes where the enhancements seem to have been missed out, which look even more apparent, probably because the rest of the content looks much more improved, but they are infrequent. The additional content that comes included (collectors cards, booklet etc), make this a great package for Robocop fans. Definitely the current most premium way to enjoy the movie, a nice addition to any collection. (Watched on an LG CX oled and Panasonic DPUB820)

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Brilliant film, great value copy
*by T***R on 28 March 2014*

Two films for the price, one the original cinema release and the Director's Cut. I watched the Director's Cut on receiving this, and to be honest I couldn't see the difference. But irrespective of this, and despite the slightly dated visual effects, in the main this film is stand out cult viewing. No sequels were necessary, but business is business. Verhoeven broke the mould here though. The satire on US society then and now is brilliant, if not a little spooky in it's foretelling of how corruption rules in the world of big corporations. One can only believe this is how things would be if a major software company were in charge of policing! But it's the little touches such as the interruptions to the news of out of place adverts, and the return to white toothed, tanned presenters smiling as they discuss more street murders and violence. The film works on many levels, obvious hero's but troubled, corrupt power hungry old white men, and a glorious villain in Clarence Bodicker. But if you don't like gore then don't watch. Verhoeven doesn't spare the viewer from any of the grisly scenes of mutilation and death.
