Trust me, it takes me weeks and hours at stores trying on every brand and every style of running shoe that I can in order to find the perfect one. I have always loved running in Brooks and was very partial to that brand for many, many years. Last year during my annual ritual of trying to find the perfect shoe,, I tried on some New Balance 780 V4's and absolutely loved them. I have actually run those things into the ground and they have sadly reached their timely demise. I actually started looking for a replacement pair of 780 V4's but all I could find were sizes that were way too small or way too big. Lucky, I noticed that the 780 V5's had the same features that I love such as the segmented crash pad and nice wide toe box and they reinforced the uppers. As soon as I got them on, I broke them in with a nice long walk and then took them out on a run the very next day. They performed perfectly and the fit was exactly as I had hoped. Very comfortable, non-stability shoe with adequate forefoot cushioning and superb heel cushioning, and a pleasant 11mm heel-to-toe drop. I have a big foot (13 2E) with high arches and it's often hard to find good, reasonably priced running shoes. These satisfy all requirements. I've always worn NB 758/759 series in 13 2E size, and these are a good successor to that line for those looking for an inexpensive road shoe for low-to-medium mileage. I've done 9 miles so far in these on both road and trail, and I'm very pleased. The redesigned heel unit looks like it should hold together much better than that of the last pair of 759s I purchased, which fell apart after 3 weeks due to poor design.They look cool, too! Also good for general wear, like most NBs. So many shoes have extreme arch support that narrows the shoe and makes them uncomfortable. I've liked New Balance over the years, but their wide shoes seem to have that arch support that really is aggravating for a normal arch. This shoe is great. The foot bed is so comfortable and the shoe is very light. the only downside is the laces--more appropriate for a women's shoe.
