Once I was able to "easily" pop off the back cover without scratching it all up, I saw there was a battery in there already. I figured there was a plastic strip in there to prevent contact to save on battery life, so I tried to remove it. I didn't even remove the battery and it started working. It appears the battery was not sitting in the battery saddle either by accident or on purpose (To save battery life). So far my pocket watch is working fine.
