Review: Very sturdy and feature rich unit. - Why did you pick this product vs others?: After viewing other similar products and reading some reviews I selected it based on the features it offered. The unit is constructed of strong metal and is coated with a durable paint to help prevent rusting. The unit comes with a plate that can be used to help eliminate excess movement of the hitch piece into the hitch receiver. My only complaint on it was that included washers needed to be a little larger. The included cargo bag is made of a very durable vinyl and also provides protection from water. It also comes with a small combination lock for the dual zippers that close up the bag. There was also a lockable pin that can be used on the hitch to prevent the pin from being pulled and the unit stolen. There were also two ratchet straps included as well as three additional straps and a cargo net. We had a little trouble when we went to raise the platform up. That was due to a small misalignment issue with the pin, but with a little help wiggling the unit the pin slid right through. We were very pleased with the product and would recommend it to anyone looking to purchase this type of device for travel. Storage capacity: The base was one of the largest available and the railing ensured that the items would not slide off of the unit. The unit can support up to 500 pounds.
Review: Incredible Space Saver - I bought this product for road tripping in our minivan. As you can see, we don't pack light! We additionally optimize the bag by using large vacuum bags (space bags) to pack inside the Mokin bag. With this, we pack for 5 people for 2 weeks of winter (bulky) clothes and need no suit cases or clothes in the van. This leaves room for the passengers to have room for personal items and space to get comfortable and sleep. We used a top mounted cargo container in the past. It just makes noise and hurts the gas mileage. This solution is much better for both. It is quiet and we got 28 MPG on a 1,500 mile run. Further, it is far easier to access this product versus the roof mount. We have taken this product on approximately 10,000 miles. Florida to DC to Wisconsin to Florida both in the winter and in the summer...through snow and rain. Performed well. Picture one is everything out back in the bag and room in the car for a long trip. Picture two is a short distance trip to camping, so there is more gear in the back of the van. Assemble Comment - Assembly was easy; nut and bolts. Did it with my daughter in no time. Only issue, it was easier to put it together upside down on the neck. For some reason the bolt fit better that way, so I assumed it was correct. This caused it to be too low to the ground and scrape. After getting down the road, we realized it needed to be corrected. We stopped flipped it the first rest plaza with basic tools. So, pretty easy to work with. Only issue was having to force the neck pin a little. After that clear sailing. Weatherproof - As I said above, we have run it through 90 in Florida to subzero in Wisconsin through snow and rain. Bag stays dry. Sturdiness - I would say this product is sturdy. The only ding is that it is going to rust eventually if not cared for. We have a minivan. There is not much clearance. Any steep incline is going to cause a scrape on the ground. For example, we scraped leaving the gas station where the slope is down and then quickly up to the street. You need to take it slow and go at an angle. The counter is, if you are a little handy, when you get home from the trip, wash it, sand it and spay paint the affected (scraped) areas. Then put a little WD40 on the nuts and bolts and put it away. For entry level (non-RV people) this is a huge space saver.

**Q: Will this fit a 2019 Ford Escape? Will the dual exhaust be a concern for fire?**
A: Unless flames shoot out of your exhaust, you will be fine.  If flames do shoot out of your exhaust, first, AWESOME, and second, you should probably have that looked at.

**Q: have you resolved the weld issue? I don't have time to test it and will be using it to drive across the US and want to be sure it doesn't break.**
A: I solved it by installing a very large bolt. The only seam that is welded is on one bar. Where the two pieces are welded together, they overlap. I took my .5" drill bit, a little lubricant, and drilled a new hole through the bar. I cleaned the drilled hole of shavings and painted the exposed metal to avoid rust. Then I got a large .5" Grade 8 bolt of the correct length and installed it so it sandwiches the two parts that were welded. The weld (which looks pretty good and is quite long) could completely, 100% fail and the bolt would easily hold the bar together. Easy piece of mind.

**Q: Will this fit a 2019 Toyota 4 runner?**
A: I’m not sure about yours specifically, but it’s fairly universal.  We have used it behind our Tahoe, a mini van, and a pickup truck severa times.  You need to have the correct receiver on your vehicle. With th basket down, I can fit between the basket and my Tahoe. If it’s loaded properly I can still open the hatch.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great hitch basket! Bag and straps not so great..

Bought this hitch basket a few months ago, and wanted to give it a few uses before writing a review. It has been working great for us! Used it on a 2,000+ mile cross country road trip through 80mph freeways, mountain roads, dirt roads, poorly paved roads, you name it, and we never had any issues. It held all of our gear inside the canvas bag through rain, heat and even snow! We have since used it for camping trips and general cargo transport, and it is still holding up great! As you can see in the photos, the velcro on the bag is coming detached. It has already detached in multiple places. This does not affect the functionality of the bag, the zipper still works and it is still pretty weatherproof. But we feel it should have lasted a lot longer, which is why I knocked off a star for this review. Also, not a fan of the straps and tie downs. We struggled with the black straps that come with it, and ultimately threw them out, along with the included tie downs, and just used good quality tie downs (do yourself a favor, and go buy good tie downs! The ones that come with this are not of good quality, and we did not want to risk it). Installation is kind of a pain. The design is so that the basket needs to be held up from the ground while inserting the pins to get it attached to the hitch. I suggest 2 people install this together. After a few times, we have come up with a system for installing. We hold the basket up with a crate while inserting the pins so we don't have to hold it up ourself. When not in use, this is very space saving. It can just be put up against a wall, or on a wide shelf out of the way. We have not tried the folding mechanism yet, so I cannot review that part. But, overall I would definitely recommend this hitch basket! It is sturdy, and frees up so much space inside your vehicle!
