They are applied after the glaze firing (over a shiny glaze) and this particular one must be fired to 020. **Q: What brush do you use to put this on?** A: You need to dedicate one brush only to use Mother of Pearl. A 1/4" to 3/8" width, and you don't lay in on like wall paint but swirl it onto the piece, being very careful to not drip it elsewhere. It will need to dry for a day, and when fired has to be fired at the cone of heat specified on the container. **Q: What is essence?** A: The essence is thinner and brush cleaner for overglaze luster. **Q: Can this be used on a handmade clay sink? Will Cleansing agents or scrubbing pads damage it?** A: Mother of Pearl Luster is designed more for decorative uses and will not likely withstand the abuse of a sink and the abrasive cleaners that are used in one. If the sink is only cleaned with a basic soap it would last. But bleaches and abrasives, including rough sponges will most likely make it wear off. On the outside of a functional pot it is dishwasher safe. It is not food safe so do not use inside a functional pot. Since you can not control how someone may clean a sink like using abrasives I would avoid it unless it was for personal use only.
