Tigger Lock Mod Due to the fact that the trigger lock gave me a blister on my thumb, and is awkward to reach/depress because of it's position and size, I decided to create this mod. The aluminum bar is common aluminum stock you can buy at places like Home Depot or Lowes. It's .125" thick, .75" wide, and cut/shaped to 3.5" long. The two slots on the right side of the bar is to allow 550 Paracord to fall into them for a more secure grip on the bar. The slots are also spaced/sized accordingly to align the cord with the grooves found on the rubberized handle. I also applied a self adhesive piece of foam to the bar for cushioning. The foam is available from craft stores and is approx 2mm thick. You can find it here on Amazon... but they may be cheaper locally. I bought mine from HouseMart (Ben Franklin Hawaii) craft store. The brand is Darice. The bar is attached to the saw using 550 paracord with a "Constrictor knot". If you don't know what knot that is... look it up on Youtube. Very easy to tie, and basically non-slip when tightened. Very good knot to use for this purpose. Looking down on the saw... There's a "buldge" in the handle area where the bar is tied to the saw, and this buldge causes the bar to be more or less higher near the trigger lock. In fact, the bar just barely rests on the trigger lock and does not depress it at all. The only time the trigger lock gets depressed, is when you squeeze on the bar. No squeeze... saw can't run. The back photo is just to show how the paracord sits in the grooves on the rubber handle. In use... Because the bar is not really secured directly to the saw, it can move a little in use. However, because it "can" move, it's very easy to depress the trigger lock. The trigger lock doesn't really need to be depressed very much to allow the trigger to run the saw. This mod has been a boon for me as this saw is now more usable than it's stock configuration. No more blisters or struggling with that tiny trigger lock! Original review... Decided to purchase this chainsaw because it uses Makita batteries, which is the tool platform I'm on. The saw cuts well, seems powerful enough for small jobs, and is easy to handle. Weight-wise, no issues. I used it to trim a small fruit tree with limbs ranging in thickness up to about 4 inches. It had no issues cutting through any of the branches... and quite quickly, I might add! Cons: 1) The trigger lock button is too small and not very user friendly. You have to work too hard to depress it because it doesn't protrude far enough out on both ends. I got a blister on the side of my thumb using the saw because of the trigger lock design. Next time... wear gloves! 2) The trigger is also small and everything just feels cramped in that area because you have to confine your hand to the small trigger. Gloves will probably make it seem worse... but at least, no blisters!. 3) The case is built weird! As it is, if you store the saw in the case, and place the case with the handle up, the chainsaw ends up up-side-down, with means the oil port is at the bottom. This may lead to a leak down the road. Why would the manufacture design the case this way? Case design needs to be re-thought. 4) It's a little tough getting the battery attached (real Makita batteries). Dimensions of the battery port seems just a tad small, making for a tight fit. Removal is also tight. Overall, the chainsaw worked as it should. Would I buy it again? Hmmm... maybe. Longevity is always a question with off-brands though, so we'll see how it goes. So far, a fairly decent saw, for the price.
