desertcart.com: LEXO Temperature Regulating Smart Travel Mug 16 oz. - Powder Black - Slide Seal Lid : Home & Kitchen

Review: It really does work. That amazing functionality does overcome a terrible lid. - I had wanted to wait until I had done a scientific study before writing a review, with numbers that detail out whether or not it works. But the fact is, it works. I put 195 degree water into it. Within the time it took to steep tea, it was 165 degrees... almost burny hot, but not quite. Four hours later it was still 145 degrees... basically perfect drinking temperature. I'm genuinely impressed. It really does bring drinks down to a drinkable temperature quickly, and keeps it warm for a really long time. Now, the lid is kind of terrible. It takes a *lot* of getting used to, in order to drink out of what is basically a hole in a flat wall. It's not like a thermos or a Yeti that have a little lip to facilitate drinking. This lid is definitely bad. However, it really is the best working thermal mug I've ever worked with. The Thermos Elite has a better one-handed operation and drinking lid. The Contigos have better grippy sides and a better drinking lid. But nothing beats the Lexo's raw "cool it, then keep it hot" functionality. I absolutely love it.
Review: Love the temp lock lid - Update: the temp lock lid has some big advantages over the other options: 1) It's secure (simple screw on lid) so you can throw the mug in a bag with other things where it will get jostled around and it will not leak and 2) It's vacuum insulated so it allows the mug to keep hot drinks hot for longer. There is one downside to the temp lock lid too: you have to unscrew it to drink. But having done that, you can also pour without spilling. You can also slurp from the mug, i.e. inhale air while sipping, which lets you drink hotter liquids without burning yourself. ------------- Great mug hampered by poor lids TL;DR: the "luxury" lid is terrible and the flip top lid is better but flawed too. I like the thermal properties of the mug though. Full review: The luxury lid is terrible. It's hard to drink from because it's so chunky and you also can't inhale air as you sip in order to cool down drinks which are still too hot (and if they started at boiling they'll still be too hot even after the phase change material melts). You also can't pour from the luxury lid very well because it always drips, although if you're willing to unscrew it every time you can pour well from the bare container with no lid. Also, the luxury lid gives off a plastic smell/taste when hot liquids touch it. Maybe the flip top lid would be better. Update: Okay, here's the thing about this lid: it works sort of okay if your liquid is cool enough. But if your liquid is too hot, you will burn yourself with this lid. There's no way to sip carefully enough or slowly enough or blow on it. If your liquid is too hot, you have to unscrew this lid and sip directly from the bottle. If you do sip directly from the bottle, you can easily drink very hot liquids without burning yourself. This is substandard performance for a lid. I have other lids on other mugs which don't suffer from this problem. This lid design relies on the mug being able to cool the liquid enough so you won't burn yourself. But you can overwhelm the mug's ability to cool adequately if you fill it repeatedly as I do when I'm drinking cup after cup of tea. You can also overwhelm the cooling mechanism if you use water which is too hot, such as boiling water for tea. But if you start with a cold mug and pour in a liquid which is not too hot, such as from a drip coffee maker, then in that case everything works out okay. The manual suggests rinsing the mug in cold water to restore its ability to cool liquids. I guess the way I'm choosing to use this thing is different than their intended use case. They expect you to take a cold mug, pour in your drip coffee, and leave for work. The phase change material cools the drink enough for you to avoid being burned and then keeps it there longer than you could without it. I think everything works out in that case. But I'm strictly using the phase change material to do the second part of that, stay hot longer. I overwhelm it at first by pouring in boiling water to brew tea. That's when I'm forced to unscrew the lid to sip or else I get burned. But then at some point my consumption slows down and the last mug I made lingers for hours. In that case it might get cool enough to drink without unscrewing the lid. But you always have to unscrew it at least once just to make sure or else you might get burned. Can you tell I've already been burned a few times? Update 2: I sent some of my complaints about the luxury lid to the company and they replied: "The Luxury Slide Seal Lid is definitely a hit or miss with customers. While many love it, some other people do not like the design or how the mechanics work. The Flip Top Lid has a larger, round sipping hole that allows a person to insert a straw into it if they wanted, but also allows them to drink straight from it. It would be a better option if you find yourself pouring from the tumbler constantly. If you want, we can send you a Flip Top Lid free of charge." So that's super nice of them and also smart because it's a good idea to keep customers happy. I'll find out if I can sip hotter liquids with the flip top lid. Even if I can't, if it pours nicely then I can handle hotter liquids by pouring some off into a cup to let it cool which is easier than unscrewing the luxury lid. Update 3: Even when heat is not an issue, such as when drinking cold drinks or hot ones which have greatly cooled down, the "luxury" lid is still pretty bad because I usually can't drink from it without some liquid dribbling down my chin or down the side of the mug. Truly this lid must have been designed for its looks because it's not very good functionally. Update 4: I received the flip top lid and it's much better than the "luxury" lid but still flawed. It lacks a real lip so you can't pour from it without liquid dribbling down the side. It has a cheap feel and the hinge looks like it's not going to last that long. With the flip top lid, you can drink hotter liquids because you can sip a lot more slowly than you can with the deluxe lid but it's still not as good at this as other flip top lids I've used. At least I can drink without dribbling with the flip top lid, which I couldn't with the deluxe lid. I think this flip top lid too, like the deluxe lid, gives too much attention in its design to looks and not enough to functionality. The best way to drink from this mug is with no lid at all. With no lid you can sip the hottest liquids and you can pour without dribbling. I wish Lexo would develop a lid which preserves that functionality and I have a different mug which achieves it if they'd like to take a look.

It does not keep coffee any hotter than a normal travel mug. It is not worth the cost.
