Purpose two: It serves as a desk pad. I'm able to write and type on my desk without worrying about my calendar getting ruined due to the clear plastic film that protects the paper. The reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is because the calendar is loose and not bound and the paper is very thin and feels flimsy.
