Bonsais have specific needs - and it starts with quality soil. Through the soil in the pot, the tree must be able to obtain water, nutrients and air in order to sustain life. Traditional potting soil retains too much water to allow your bonsai to thrive and grow. Harris Bonsai Soil is expertly blended for your bonsai needs, combining a premium mix of ingredients in the correct ratio to keep your bonsai at its best. DIRECTIONS FOR REPOTTING YOUR BONSAI: How often you should repot depends on timing, the size of the pot and tree species of your Bonsai. You should use care in this process to ensure successful bonsai growth. Choose an appropriate container. Using the appropriate bonsai tools (rake, wire cutters), carefully loosen and remove the plant from the existing pot. Using root rake (or chopsticks), carefully remove old soil from around existing roots. Prune roots that are damaged or too long. Fill desired container about 1/3 full of soil. Inspect and trim dead roots or leaves. Place into new container. Add and fill in remaining areas around roots with soil-being careful not to compact too tightly. Water thoroughly and drain as needed. Within 7-10 days after planting, begin your regular fertilizer program as needed or recommended.
