All I had to do was start the set screw, place it on the hammer (right handed set in my case), tighten the set screw about 90% (jiggling lightly to make sure it got properly seated in the afore-mentioned indent), and then get it nicely seated before tightening all the way. Not ape-tightened mind you, but nicely snug so that there is no play. This was not difficult to do with the supplied, very small Allen wrench.
