## Questions & Answers

**Q: How long would this be able to run a mac mini and external hard drive for?**
A: Not very long at all. I have two Salicru 2000VA unit which only runs for around 10 minutes. One drives 2 normal desktop PCs and the other runs two routers and a network switch. The idea being that in a powercut I would be able to work for up to an hour. I complained to Salicru who told me that 10 minutes was the expected runtime for their 2000VA unit and pointed me to the time listed in their specs!! In contrast my APC 2200 VA unit runs my 4 servers for around 45 minutes! I bought these 2000VA Salicro units to replace another APC2200 which needed new batteries as this was the cheaper option. On new batteries it used to run for an hour. If I had known what poor performance these Salicru units had I would never have bought them. I recommend you buy a well-known tried and trusted make. I am an IT consultant by profession. Embarrassed to say I was caught out by this manufacturer.

**Q: Is the communications protocol compatible with that used by APC devices?**
A: It conforms to the generic UPS usb protocol and I have had no issues with it.

**Q: To have the computer running without shutting down in a power cut, do i just leave it connected to the the salicru sps one? not instal the software?**
A: You can do that, yes, but it's a very basic way of using the UPS. You don't need the software but if you do install it and hook up to USB you get better control plus event logging, plus you can see the status of the battery and load etc. to gauge how long is left before the power supply shuts down altogether, powering off your computer with it. Best to let the battery run flatt-ish and recharge it fully several times a year. Mine is the Soho One+ 2000VA which has already kicked in due to power cuts.

**Q: If i just want to have the computer running all the time without shutting down in a power cut, do i just leave it connected to the the salicru sps one**
A: Yes keep the salicru sps one connected between the mains and the computer and if there is a power cut shut shut down your computer while you still can. The UPS will only run for about 15 to 20 minutes before it's power runs down, so you should have enough time to shut down your computer without loosing any work.

    Good quality and value UPS

*by C***V on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 May 2018*

I was recommended this product by a friend who has used Salicru products for a few years now. They are apparently a Spanish manufacturer and previously I have used APC products but the SPS one 500 seemed to be cheaper for the same kind of features and it has everything I was looking for. The unit build seems very good and the unit was easy to set-up, is quiet and compact. No problems and I would have no hesitation recommending to other customers.

Awful! Not fit for purpose, and definitely not 700va!

*by L***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 December 2019*

**UPDATE** - this UPS is not fit for purpose. My testing concluded it's good for no more than 90secs of battery power. That is simply not enough, and no way is this a 700va UPS. 90secs is just about enough time to shut a PC down in the event of a power outage, but what if it's a little over or under voltage? Ideally you'd want a PSU to stay on for a few minutes, and power-down the PC where it's sustained loss of power. I've reduced my review to a 1 star and returned it. I've opted instead for an APC Back-UPS 950va UPS. More expensive at £92 vs. £64 (at time of purchase), but well worth it. Battery time on the APC UPS is 15mins (tested) with the same equipment. Spend the extra and get a quality piece of kit. With the APC alternative I can up the sensitivity for electrical noise safe in the knowledge my PC will only need to shut down after 5-10mins of sustained electrical outage or noise. 15mins coverage from 950va APC UPS vs. 90secs with an alleged 700va device from Salicru.First impressions, having set the UPS up and simulated a power failure, aren't the best. I have the 700VA model and have this wired up to support my desktop PC (just the PC PSU and no peripherals). Whilst the PC has 650w PSU, it's only drawing 300-350w. Having charged the battery to 100%, and configured the auto-shutdown capabilities (go to sleep after 1 minute), I flicked the power switch. Immediately the battery went from 100% to 78%. It then fell 2% a second down to ~48%. There it slowed to 1% every 3-5 seconds. To lose 50% of the capacity in less than 30s was surprising to say the least! The load reported in PowerView didn't change at ant point; I'm assuming the tool was perhaps incorrectly reporting the capacity and that it wasn't fully charged yet. I had configured the UPS to put my W10 device to sleep after 30s on battery; it duty fully killed the power after 30s. Changing the setting to Shut Down vs. Sleep fixed that, and happy to report this works well (using the included USB cable to connect UPS to PC). I'm going to test the battery a number of times in the coming days to assess performance and will adjust my review accordingly. I fear based on my I initial tests that I'll only have 2-3mins to get my PC cleanly shut down which might not actually be enough; I wasn't expecting long run times but hopefully something around 5mins which gave time to comfortably shut the device down.

    Reasonable budget UPS

*by A***M on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 September 2020*

I've had the SPS ONE 700 version of this for about two years now, connected to a mid-range desktop PC and 21 inch LCD monitor. It's very compact and has dealt with several power cuts over that period. My machine will run for at least five minutes on the UPS, more than enough time to save everything and shut down.Since UPS batteries have a habit of failing after a couple of years, I recently decided to replace it. If you have a minimal level of technical know-how, this is very simple. The only tools you'll need are a cross-head screwdriver to remove the four screws attaching the top portion of the case to the bottom and a knife or thin-edged flat-blade screwdriver to ease open the clips attaching the front fascia to the main body on the underside. Once you have the thing apart, disconnect the two spade connectors on the old battery and remove it, put the new one in, reconnect the two connectors (paying attention to polarity, of course) and reassemble. The battery in the box was a brand I didn't recognise, so I decided to replace it with a Yuasa NP7-12 AGM S65 12V 7.0Ah (currently available on Amazon for a price that's about a quarter of this UPS) which is the same voltage and current spec as the original, and it fit perfectly. The only downside of this product is the awful monitoring software. Every time it starts, Windows 10 asks for admin permission to run it, and I couldn't figure out a way around this. In the end, I removed it from the list of start-up programmes and ran it manually occasionally to check the state of the battery. The only disadvantage of this is that the software couldn't be used to automatically shut down the PC in a power cut, but Windows 10 copes with improper shutdowns well. Everyone with any sense should have the habit of saving their open work before walking away from their machine, and the UPS software wouldn't deal with this in any case.
