I think it’s because the little roof over the feeding ports is too close to the feeding ports. Might be ok for the small birds but larger birds have to duck their heads to avoid hitting the roof overhead. It is squirrel proof! The squirrels slide off of the domed lid. This feeder is well made and attractive and good for small birds. I bought another bird feeder with an open feeding ring and the birds love it. More birds can feed around the open circular perch.
