This is a small double boiler that has an etching "stainless steel 304" on the bottom, a safe and sturdy food grade stainless steel. The handle and hook are attached and hopefully stay attached.  There are several black smears inside the bowl.  I can only remove them by using my finger to scratch them off (tissue didn't work).Although it says it measures to be 2 cups.  I think 1 and a half is a safer bet so that the liquid won't overflow.  It is also safer to be put inside an oven, too.
