The firefly mode doesnt look like anything in the daylight, but at night it's more than enough to walk along a trail in pitch black. I used extensively recently on a trip at lower settings. When i went to recharge it, it only took minutes to get to full power. I have gone on long backpacking trips where battery life is a concern, and i think this light would last far beyond the standard equipment.
