Instead the AFM Safecoat made it worst. It off gassed a strong ammonia smell when it was first applied over the old paint. Then when it dried off, the off-gassing odor was even stronger then before it was applied. I ventilated my bedroom with two fans extracting 24 hrs. for a whole week and the chemical smell subsided some. So I slept in the bedroom for a few hours and woke up with a headache and chess congestion which indicates that toxic chemicals are still off gassing off the walls. The bedroom is now being used as a storage room. I may have to wait for a couple of years and use clay to cover the walls. It's a sealer to seal odors out. It can be put over paint or painted over, without losing it's sealing capabilities. Great for baby rooms or those who can't tolerate strong odors. Hope that helps. **Q: Does this work on walls to seal high voc paint from gassing?** A: It doesn't. I bought it to seal off voc paint in my bedroom but it made it worst. Emitted a strong ammonia odor that lingered for a week - with fans going 24/7. Then the odor turned into a strong chemical smell. **Q: Would this be durable enough for painted kitchen chairs?** A: This is durable but I would suggest Acrilaq for wood, especially chairs. If the hard seal gets wet for any length of time it starts to turn white. It can be cleaned up with some effort but Acrilaq (Hope I spelled that right) is amazing for wood. I am assuming the chairs are wooden.....it's what I used on my hardwood floors. It is quite durable but for floors it needs to be re-done every several of years, putting 3 or 4 coats will lengthen the time. For chairs it should last much longer. It's a little more expensive but very much worth the price...I do not work for them, I just love their products and have used them for about 20 years. **Q: I have self adhesive vinyl tiles in my bathroom and want a sealant to keep the dirt and water from getting into the cracks. Would this product work?** A: If you are using this sealant because you do not want the toxic fumes from the conventional sealants, this product won't work. The fume from this sealant is pretty strong. Used a great deal less than recommended amount to achieve coverage and applied multiple coats.
