These pads work fine and deliver constant cushioning with no breakdown within the pads. The straps are at their most comfortable when pads are used with long pants. I've used mine with shorts; and after hours of work I can feel the straps' edges irritating the back of my calves. Certainly not a deal breaker. The comfort these provide while allowing me to work for hours doing tile equals 5-star performance for this septuagenarian. Wearing jeans would have negated the strap issue; but it's summer, and laying tile in this heat calls for shorts.
