It costs more than $400 but so do a number of barbeque grills, and this device suits my particular cooking style better. It is well designed, works very well, and produces things I want to eat. Using it is not as simple as transferring your food from indoor cooking to outdoor; there is a simple learning curve involved. There are YouTube videos on this product that help one get acquainted, and a few cookbooks on the subject (none of which I have). I just treat it like a slow cooker and pretty much use those recipes. I am very pleased with my purchase and feel it will serve me well for years.
