After weeks of me thinking it was us not closing the lid properly and water damage to our ceiling I have finally accepted it is a design fault. It doesn't matter how hard you close the lid it pops open. I've lost count of the number of times I've come back to the kitchen to find it boiling away and the room full of steam. Sadly I would say avoid. Fast and quiet boil. Lid is flimsy and the release button does not work all the time. The kettle also has to be in line with the base to fit, so awkward to use. However its sleek and minimal design still makes it an attractive purchase.
