There is an almost zero learning curve with this jacket. My grandson put it on, and started swimming. Now, you can't leave him alone for a second, but he doggy paddles himself all over the pool and he Loves it! It was pretty amazing to see him actually swim effortlessly! Now we can't get him out of the pool! I has some stretch on the sides for growth so it should be good for the pool or boat all summer. And the floating strap at the neck is removable as he grows, and doesn't need to be reminded to keep his chin up. My daughter-in-law is buying him another to take with her to her parents and the beach.
