This one is no exception. I'm using it with an NFC-capable smart card for PIV and FIDO2. It reads my card fine through standard badge holders. More sensitive than the other contactless reader I own...I can just throw the card on it and it works without fuss (my other reader requires somewhat precise positioning for it to read the card). I do recommend using HID's driver for it. When using the standard Windows drivers, I had issues seeing the PIV functionality of my card (some software would say the card was incompatible or the wrong one despite the card being fine).
