It's a low pile rug, but soft nonetheless. HOWEVER, it is more taupe than light brown and the bands are an off-white/cream instead of beige, and it is bit shiny. A very pretty rug and a great value for the money. Also, although sturdy enough it is only 1/4 in thick, not a half inch thick as advertised.
