## Description

With the Roomba® Vac Essential robot, cleaning floors is simple. Simply use the iRobot Home App or press the clean button and let it get to work. This high-tech yet uncomplicated robot has the essential features people love with powerful suction for a deep clean. And it has a low-profile design, so it can grab dirt and dust from hard-to-reach places, like under the couch. It has smart navigation and an Edge-Sweeping Brush, so sensors help it navigate around furniture and avoid falling down stairs while it meticulously cleans your floors, including corners and edges.

Review: Lacks smart features but overall cleans VERY well - My girlfriend and I purchased this roomba about a month ago for our new apartment that has only hard floors. Disclaimer is we have never used this on carpet. We have a cat and we were tired of manually vacuuming up tons of cat hair each week. SETUP: Setup was pretty easy. I just had to put a few parts together, download the app, and connect the robot to the Wifi. I did have some issues where it said the Wifi password was incorrect even though it wasn't, but after some research I found out that it was because I had special characters in my Wifi password. Why is this a limitation? No idea, kind of ridiculous but changing my Wifi password fixed this problem, and I haven't had any issues since. USE: Using this vacuum is super easy, you just click the start button on the vacuum or in the app. I also linked it together with HomeBridge so I'm able to ask Siri to start to vacuum as well. You can set up a run schedule in the app, but I set it up (again, through HomeBridge), so that it runs when neither of us are home. People say that it's loud when it's running, I think this is definitely overstated. It's nowhere near as loud as a normal vacuum. You can still have a conversation while it's running, but it can be annoying at times. RESULTS: After about a month of running the roomba every day, we finally decided to sweep the floors and picked up pretty much nothing. It has done a fantastic job of keeping our floors clean of dust, cat litter, cat hair, crumbs, and literally anything else. We find that we have to dump the bin about once a week, which is perfectly okay with us because it takes two seconds to do. When we make a small mess, like dropping something in the kitchen, the spot clean function works pretty well. But considering that you have to go pick up the roomba, set it in the right spot, click "spot clean", leave the area for a bit, and then manually move it back to the home, it just becomes more effort than its worth. At that point, grab a broom. DOWNSIDES: There are a few downsides to the roomba. The first of which is that it doesn't clean for the first few feet near its home. After about a month, you could tell a difference between the area immediately around the home and everywhere else in the apartment. This is some kind of software limitation that I don't fully understand, but just be aware of this. The second downside is that this roomba has zero idea where it's going, it just bumps into things to map out your home. Over time, it seems to learn a bit more about the space and does a better job at navigating, but this is just a sacrifice you have to make at this price point. Similarly, this roomba will run over anything. Socks, cords, cat toys, it has no idea about its surroundings so sometimes it gets stuck. We just have to check that we didn't leave anything on the floor before we leave the house, because if we did we probably will have to rescue the roomba when we get home. The software does a good job of alerting you when the robot is stuck, but it's still annoying. More expensive models use a camera to avoid obstacles, preventing these issues. And thirdly, this roomba has no support for vacuuming certain rooms or only certain areas. It has to vacuum your entire home in one go or nothing. Sometimes I wish I could tell it to vacuum the kitchen after I cook dinner, for example. But again, this is just a sacrifice you make at this pricepoint, and iRobot's more expensive models have this feature. OVERALL: For $250 this roomba is totally worth it, but if you can get it on sale like we did (~$150), this roomba is an absolute no-brainer. The lack of obstacle avoidance or ability to specify different rooms or areas to clean is annoying. But that can all be blamed on the fact that we bought the cheapest model that iRobot sells, because their more expensive models DO have these features. At the end of the day, our apartment is extremely clean without us lifting a finger, and that's what counts. 5 stars for the time and effort this roomba has saved us, even if we have to rescue it every few weeks.
Review: Very impressed! - Disclaimer: I bought this model, 675, with my own money and these are my honest opinions. I've never owned one of these and literally bought it on a whim. I was initially looking at a cheaper Eufy brand vacuum because I trust its parent company (Anker), but once I saw that iRobot had Alexa enabled and app integrated robots I went for this one. A lot of my house consists of smart devices so it only made sense. The Alexa integration was very simple. Just download the app, log into your wifi, and the Roomba connects very easily. Then you just have to enable the iRobot Home skill in your Alexa app. I had trouble figuring out the appropriate commands but just google search "roomba alexa comands" to find them. Once you set up scheduled cleaning in the iRobot app you don't have to control it through Alexa very often unless you want to do multiple cleanings in a day. I placed the dock appropriately, following spacial instructions, and charged the robot for about an hour. The instructions say 3 hours initially but I checked the app and it was fully charged. The Roomba responds very quickly to the app and it started cleaning right when I tapped "Clean" on the app. It moves very randomly and can seem to get stuck for a bit but it usually finds its way. I have an area rug with dark brown/black sections that I wasn't worried about but it will not pass over them because it assumes they're "cliffs." I'm grateful for the "cliff protection" feature and can live with this hiccup, just beware if you have black rugs. I have others that are solid chocolate brown and it passes over those just fine. I was frustrated that it wouldn't return to base the first couple times, but that's because I moved it manually because it couldn't find its way out from under my dining table and I was inpatient. IF YOU MOVE IT DURING CLEANING IT CAN'T FIND THE BASE. It will only find its way back to the dock it it starts there and is left uninterrupted. Occasionally it will actually get stuck and it will turn off and chime some tones to get your attention. You also get a notification on your phone to go help it. The only times it's gotten really stuck was on the edge of a really high pile shag rug (which is warned against in the instructions) and when it wedged under a headboard that was just the perfect height to pin it to the ground. Some have said it sucks up cords but I keep my cords/electronics VERY tidy so its not an issue for me. Emptying the bin is very easy, and it filled up really quickly the first few runs, which is expected. Its kind of gross how much it captures in my house because I keep it very clean as it is. It was able to pick up standard clay cat litter fairly well. Toward the end of its cleaning cycle when the bin and filter were more obstructed it didn't always capture the litter though, which is what you'd expect. It did bump into my cats' food and water bowls and push them around a bit. It worries me a little that water may spill if I'm not there to monitor it. I've ordered a "iRobot Dual Mode Virtual Wall Barrier (Renewed)" that i'll put in "Lighthouse" mode to fix that (the renewed model is half the price of a new one so I'm giving it a shot. it has a 90 day desertcart guarantee). Overall I love this thing and it's only been 2 days. It's very convenient to be able to schedule cleaning when your away at work, or if you are expecting company and have other things to prepare. I think my Roomba will continue to serve me well. If any glaring issues come up I'll update this review as needed. UPDATE 9/19/19 I still love the thing. I ordered some white felt tape and put that over the black borders of my trouble rug under my couches so it seamlessly travels over those areas. I also ordered 8 2" risers for my couch and loveseat because they were just barely too low for the roomba. The iRobot virtual walls (Renewed) are a life saver. I have 3 of them now, one to protect the cat food bowls, one to block off the dining room (it gets caught in the chair legs forever and would rather it spend time in other areas), and one to block off a room with a high pile shag rug. I've officially "roomba-proofed" my house and I have it clean everyday while I'm at work and I havent gotten a "Roomba is stuck" notification since. I love this thing and highly recommend it as long as you have REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS and READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good bang for your buck
*by M***L on September 25, 2020*

Great entry level robot vacuum. We use this to clean the hardwood and rugs in our living room and kitchen and it does a great job cleaning up all the cat and dog hair and all the dirt the pets bring in. The floors are spotless after it runs a full cycle. The Roomba app is great and you can easily set your cleaning schedule or start a new cycle while you're away. You do have to make sure any loose objects are off the floor, so as we leave for the day we take 2 minutes and move the pet food bowls and anything else up and out of the way. Same for any loose cords or curtains that are hanging on the floor. Knocking off one star because it sometimes sometimes freezes when it goes to far out over the ledge between our living room and family room that's one step down. 95% of the time it senses the ledge and turns around, but other times it goes too far out and gets stuck. You have to turn it around yourself and press start again to get it back running. It also sometimes get stuck under the couch. Our couch is just the right height that the Roomba can get under the couch in one certain spot, but then gets stuck. If it was a fraction taller or shorter, it would work just fine. It can be annoying when you expect it to clean the whole area, but get's stuck after just a few minutes of cleaning. It also seems to have a hard time finding it's docking station after it gets done cleaning. It's probably our fault in where we located the docking station, but this spot works for us and is out of the way. We just have to pick up the dead Roomba and carry it back to the dock. Not a huge deal, and the convenience of the robot vacuum outweighs the issue of having to carry it back when it's done. Due to the layout of our house, if it finds it's way into the bedrooms/office, it would usually get stuck back there, so we block off that area of the house now. We didn't feel like spending the large amount of extra money to buy a vacuum that comes with house mapping, so we still vacuum those areas with our cordless stick vacuum. If you're hoping this vacuum will clean your entire house and return to it's charging dock perfectly, you probably need to spend the extra money and buy one with mapping features. But, if you want a vacuum to thoroughly clean you main living areas and save a little money, this is the one for you.
