I have an analog (dial) thermometer in the oven, but it is hard to read. This one is very precise and responsive. The reading fluctuates when I open the door or when I change the oven setting, even if it is only a degree or two. Now I can obsess over the oven temp to my heart's content! I have also used the meat probe while grilling. It works well. I put the probe in a chicken breast I was grilling and closed the grill (I have a large gas grill that works better closed). I was able to watch the temperature gradually increase on the receiver until it reached the recommended temp. The receiver is very convenient and easy to read. Just remember to remove the probe with tongs or a potholder as it and the wire will get quite hot with the grill lid closed. (Don't ask how I know.) ### ⭐⭐ Nice... after I repaired it *by C***N on Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2018* I bought this to use with my smoker but didn't end up taking it out and trying to use it for a couple months after ordering. Unfortunately the base/transmitter part didn't turn on. I'm good with electronics so I took it apart and found the wire going from the circuit board to the switch wasn't attached. I soldered it up and now it works great and as expected. My only other critique is the magnets on the display are too weak and barely hold it up, try to stick it on a refrigerator or door or something and it will slowly slide off.Battery life seems good, I have put it through several 4-8 smoking sessions and haven't yet had to change a battery. Range is decent, gets *almost* all the way across the house.Overall, for the price it's a decent little unit just don't expect premium quality from something this cheap. Giving it 2 stars because it didn't work out of the box but that could have been a fluke, would have been 4 otherwise. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Working probes? *by B***. on Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2020* One of the sensors started malfunctioning right away. I took the twists out the lines and such, but it read outrageous temps like 547 degrees, while the other sensor was the real temp. Both in the same piece of meat, and re-inserted several times. The next use, the second thermocouple failed also.In general, the unit is nice. I like it quite a lot, but the probes are problematic.
