In doing this, I can have the soundbar and headphones working at the same time. If I want to use the headphones only, I just shut off the soundbar. Look at the dangling tips of both fibers. Each end should be glowing with a little spark of red. Just one fiber-cable from TV (no splitter) should glow just a tiny bit brighter. If not the TV isn't doing its part yet. If the red lights are ok, make sure the TV is sharing its sounds over the fiber: Turn on your TV and change channel to something which makes predictable noise, maybe a news show. Then, on your TV's settings menu, check the audio output settings. It may say things like: { (#1) internal speakers only, (#2) digital optical fiber output, (#3) both }. I would choose (#2). That way the sound definitely transmits into the fiber, and the TV itself is not making distracting noise. Make sure the soundbar by itself is working (no headphones): The fiber-cable that goes to the soundbar, take its other end out of the splitter, and take the splitter pigtail-cable out of the TV, and plug the fiber-cable end into the TV. Play with the soundbar's buttons until it carries the TV's sound. Then re-insert the splitter. If re-insertion makes the sound stop, then this simple all-optical fiber-splitter will not work for your particular devices. Works as expected. My older receiver only has one optical input and one coax. I need to add another device with only an optical output to my system. So I plugged in the optical cable on this splitter into my receiver and then plugged in The other two devices. As expected, with both of them plugged in I didn't get any sound. But it's super easy to unplug one of the cables. I thought about getting a splitter with a remote but this does the job. We rarely use the Blu-ray player That I now use the splitter with. On the rare occasion that we watch a Blu-ray, I just need to reach behind the TV and unplug the appropriate optical And I get Dolby digital or DTS with the same quality as if the optical was plugged directly in to the receiver.If your cables are difficult to get to or you use both devices that are plugged in quite often, you will be better off with a splitter that has separate optical out ports that are managed by a remote or switch. But in this particular use case, it was simple and I didn't have to spend an extra 20 bucks on yet another Electronic device and have to go through the process of reprogramming my harmony remote.I haven't tried it in the recommended configuration, but I suspect that it probably works as stated by other reviews. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good *by D***Z on February 9, 2025* Works well ### ⭐ Device stopped splitting correctly. Price too low to make it worth returning. *by "***" on April 20, 2019* I purchased this on Match 22 2019 and it seemed to do its job pretty well for a passive optical splitter. I read the reviews and they convinced me. This is the first device of its kind that I've used - specifically for a sound bar and a pair of Sennheiser wireless RF headphones. It stopped working a week ago. It'll either successfully connect one optical audio feed or the other. Not both. This is the typical behavior of digital feeds. It either works or it doesn't. The actual toslink cables used here have nothing to do with it. No extreme bending, no loose connections and the caps on the cable ends are removed. The cables connected to the 2 outputs are 3ft and I wonder if that's causing issues. Length matters when it comes to these devices but I would sure hope 3ft is within acceptable length. I understand the physical limitations of optical audio. I'll also add that from a visible aspect, I do see optical light flowing through each cable, although weaker than its source.My recommendation: do not purchase a passive optical audio splitter but rather an active one, meaning one that uses an external power source so you don't end up with one weak optical feed versus the other. The 2 feeds resulting from the split are amplified guaranteeing no digital signal loss. Splitting the optical feed should not end up with 2 weaker feeds compared to its source with these. They cost in the low $20 range as of now, from what I'm finding out. That's what I'm going to do so I know I won't be risking this problem with future purchases.I hate giving one star reviews but if the device cannot serve its purpose then it's nothing but a paperweight.
