The slide is detachable, we take it on and off when we feel necessary. The bed is a beautiful color made off strong sturdy wood. Low rise height with the bottom bunk being on slates directly above the floor. We decided not to install the final border on the floor bunk so my daughter can easily climb in and out of bed independently.
